As we begin to see the early, early, suggestion that the leaves will turn, it is time to think about fall. For many of our guests, this is the best time to be on the North Shore. Here is a list of what is happening on the shore and at Cove Point Lodge.

Early September Cool Nights. The air is fresh and crisp and the hiking trails seem to have more visitors as people like to be in the woods knowing that the mosquitoes are gone, and that the cool refreshing air is everywhere.

September 15th Lake Superior Expedition At Cove Point Lodge. On this date the Lake Superior Expidition comes to Cove Point Lodge as Kate and Mike near the end of a 1,500 mile hike around Lake Superior that started on April 29,2010. They will be staying with us and will give a presentation on their experiences as the examined and explored this great lake. This will be a very special evening at the lodge.

Fall Waves. The lake is starting to change and the waves are special during this time of year. With 1 foot waves you will hear the splash from your room, with two foot waves you will hear a significant roar, and with 3 foot waves and more you will experience the power of Lake Superior. On our web site we feature a place you can go to get the current wave condition and an official forecast—and it is not unusual to see waves on the lake at 4 or 8 or more than 15 feet. You can also look at our cove cam and see what is actually happening on the property. Many guest will call us to ask about the waves, and if they are crashing the guests jump in their vehicles to get to the shore and to see the action.

Leaf Season. The North Shore is the top fall leaf destination in Minnesota. The season gets underway in mid September and goes on until late October.

Split Rock Lighthouse November 10th Edmound Fitzgerald and Lighting Of the Beacon. This ceramony happens every year on November 10. Just after dark in the late afternoon, a ceremony is held at this historic lighthouse to remember the crew of the ship Edmound Fitzgerald that went down on the lake. After the ceremony, the lighthouse beacon is activated for a short time. The lighthouse is only four miles from the lodge and many guests will go to the festivities and be back to have dinner in the lake side dining room by 7:00pm.

Kubb Tournement on November 13. Kubb is a Scandinavian lawn game that combine lawn bowling with bowling. Wisconsin and Minnesota is the USA hub of this growing family sport. The games will go on regardless of the weather!!

Thanksgiving. This is a time when families love to come to the lodge and celebrate the holiday. Our cottages are busy as many people will cook a turkey. But the dining room also serves the full holiday meal. The lake is interesting at this time of the year.
